BHOPAL/In a determined bid to uplift standards in government schools, the Rajgarh district administration has conducted a comprehensive screening test for teachers whose schools recorded poor results in board examinations.
The initiative has been taken by the Collector of the district, Dr Girish Kumar Mishra, and the CEO of Zila Panchayat, Dr Ichchhit Garhpale, leading to a series of bold accountability measures combined with innovative support.
The administration conducted a district-wide screening test to assess the competency of contractual and guest teachers. The test revealed alarming gaps, with a significant number of teachers securing below 40% marks. The administration responded swiftly — issuing notices, withholding salaries in several cases, and initiating disciplinary proceedings against underperformers.
The district has adopted a unique model of accountability and capacity building for teachers, combined with digital innovation and student motivation, setting a potential template for educational reform in Madhya Pradesh.
Following the poor performance of a large number of teachers in the test, the administration took firm action. Teachers who secured less than 40% marks were issued notices, with salaries withheld in several cases. However, rather than adopting a purely punitive approach, the district launched a constructive follow-up.
The teachers who failed have been assigned remedial “mini classes” and special training modules. Those who performed well in the test are now being asked to share responsibility for improving outcomes in their schools. The administration is also planning to seek explanations from high-performing teachers on why students in their classes are still failing — a novel “reverse accountability” model.
In a forward-looking initiative, the Rajgarh district administration has launched the “Digital Education and Academic Improvement Pilot Project”. Under this project, around 20 experienced and young subject-specialist teachers have been selected to record high-quality video lectures.
These lectures will be uploaded on a dedicated YouTube channel, enabling students across the district — especially in remote areas — to access quality education through mobile phones and smart classrooms. The project also aims to equip schools with smart TVs, projectors, and digital boards.
District officials, including CEO Garhpale, have emphasised that this initiative will bridge the gap between urban and rural students and ensure consistent academic support beyond classroom hours.
The district organised a special felicitation ceremony to honour 105 students from residential hostels (Chhatravas) who achieved 100% pass results in board examinations despite limited resources. Students from Classes 8th, 10th, and 12th who secured top positions were awarded.
Collector Mishra, while addressing the gathering, highlighted the importance of hostel-based education in transforming the lives of children from marginalised backgrounds. He described hostels not merely as accommodation facilities but as “centres for personality development and excellence.”
Garhpale has combined strict monitoring, remedial support, technological intervention, and motivation to create a comprehensive ecosystem for educational improvement.
Officials said the focus remains on regular academic monitoring, capacity building of teachers, and ensuring that every child receives quality education irrespective of their socio-economic background.
The multi-dimensional initiative in Rajgarh is being closely watched by educationists across the state as a potential replicable model for improving learning outcomes in government schools.
