NEW DELHI: Security arrangements have been strengthened across the New Delhi district ahead of a protest march announced by the Cockroach Janta Party (CJP) for September 5, police sources said on Tuesday.
The proposed march is scheduled to begin at India Gate and proceed towards the Police Headquarters on Jai Singh Marg, near Jantar Mantar.
According to police sources, additional personnel have been deployed in and around Jantar Mantar, while barricades have been installed as a precautionary measure. The area is being kept under close watch ahead of the proposed demonstration.
A police official said permission for the march has not been granted so far. The police have also not received any formal request or permission letter from the CJP seeking approval to hold the protest, the source said.
The security measures have been stepped up amid heightened security requirements in the national capital ahead of the BRICS Summit. Security has been reinforced not only in the New Delhi district but also in parts of central Delhi, the sources said.
Jantar Mantar, a designated venue for protests and located in the vicinity of several key government offices, has also been placed under heightened security.
Police personnel have been positioned at strategic points, while movement around sensitive locations is being closely monitored as part of the security arrangements.
Officials indicated that additional measures could be introduced closer to September 5, depending on the situation and developments related to the proposed march.
