NEW DELHI: The Supreme Court Collegium, led by Chief Justice of India Surya Kant, has recommended the appointment of new Chief Justices for the Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh, and Jammu & Kashmir and Ladakh High Courts.
The five-member collegium, comprising the CJI and Justices Vikram Nath, B V Nagarathna, M M Sundresh and P S Narasimha, took the decisions at its meeting on Monday.
Justice Sanjay K Agrawal of the Chhattisgarh High Court has been recommended for appointment as Chief Justice of the Rajasthan High Court.
The recommendation comes amid allegations raised by Supreme Court judge Justice Sandeep Mehta concerning the functioning of Rajasthan High Court Acting Chief Justice Sanjeev Prakash Sharma.
Justice Mehta, who belongs to the Rajasthan High Court, had written to the CJI on August 2, 10 and 17, seeking the appointment of a permanent Chief Justice from outside the state.
For the Madhya Pradesh High Court, the Collegium has recommended Justice Alpesh Yeshwant Kogje of the Gujarat High Court as the next Chief Justice.
Justice Dr Pushpendra Singh Bhati of the Rajasthan High Court has been recommended to head the Jammu & Kashmir and Ladakh High Court.
In a separate decision taken at its August 6 meeting, the Collegium had recommended Justice Krushna Ram Mohapatra of the Orissa High Court for appointment as Chief Justice of the Chhattisgarh High Court.
The recommendation was made in view of the retirement of the incumbent Chief Justice of the Chhattisgarh High Court on September 4.
The latest recommendations will come into effect after the Union government completes the required appointments in accordance with the constitutional procedure.
