MUMBAI: Actor and philanthropist Sonu Sood has reached Kathmandu with relief material for people affected by the devastating floods in Nepal and assured that humanitarian assistance from his foundation will continue in the months ahead.
Sood arrived in the Nepalese capital on Tuesday along with members of the Sood Charity Foundation, carrying food supplies and blankets for flood victims, according to The Kathmandu Post.
Speaking to reporters, Sood said his team was in Nepal to stand with those who had lost their homes and livelihoods in the disaster.
“We are here to meet all the victims of the flood. We just want to be with the people who are in need and will try to bring their lives back (on track),” he said.
The actor said the foundation’s immediate focus was on providing essential supplies while simultaneously understanding the specific requirements of communities affected by the floods.
“We have got a lot of blankets, food materials and we are still asking whatever they need, we are trying to send it from India,” he said.
The flash floods that struck Nepal on August 26 followed a collapse of ice and rock near the Nepal-Tibet border, causing widespread destruction across several towns and villages in the northern and central parts of the country.
According to Nepal’s National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Authority, the death toll reached 1,003 on Tuesday. Nearly 4,000 people remained missing, while around 12,000 had been rescued.
Sood said the relief programme would not be restricted to immediate emergency assistance.
“We will make sure that not only this month but also in coming months, the relief keeps coming,” he said.
The 53-year-old actor had announced his decision to travel to Nepal on August 26, posting on X that his team would arrive with food and shelter and help people rebuild their lives.
On Tuesday night, Sood shared photographs of himself with Nepalese children and said they had lost their homes, families and childhood, but expressed hope that collective efforts could help them make a fresh start.
Sood has previously undertaken several humanitarian initiatives. During the COVID-19 pandemic, he gained widespread recognition for arranging transportation for thousands of migrant workers stranded in different parts of the country.
He also extended assistance during the Punjab floods in 2025 and, in March this year, offered free accommodation to travellers stranded in Dubai after flight disruptions linked to the escalating US-Iran conflict in the Middle East.
