BHOPAL: The Madhya Pradesh government has taken action against 83 hospitals since January 2026 for alleged irregularities in the implementation of the Ayushman Bharat ‘Niramayam’ scheme, including 18 hospitals being removed from the scheme’s empanelled list.
Strict monitoring and inspections are being carried out on the directions of Deputy Chief Minister Rajendra Shukla, who also holds the Public Health and Medical Education portfolio, to ensure transparent implementation of the health scheme and access to quality treatment for eligible beneficiaries.
Of the 83 hospitals against which action has been initiated, payments to 15 have been stopped, while penalties totalling Rs 3,13,79,311 have been imposed on 50 hospitals. Eighteen hospitals have been de-empanelled from the scheme.
Authorities have also acted on complaints and investigation reports concerning hospitals in Bhopal. Siddhanta Red Cross Super Speciality Hospital has been suspended from the Ayushman Bharat ‘Niramayam’ scheme on the basis of a report submitted by the Chief Medical and Health Officer. A stop-payment order has also been issued against the hospital.
A show-cause notice has been served on Multi Care Hospital in Bhopal. Meanwhile, an Ayushman Bharat investigation team has inspected two other hospitals following complaints received against them. Further action is being taken after examining available records and investigation reports, officials said.
Arvind Shah, Chief Executive Officer of the State Health Agency, said the government had adopted a zero-tolerance approach towards irregularities under the scheme.
He said the primary objective was to ensure that eligible beneficiaries received quality healthcare that was accessible and delivered through a transparent system.
According to Shah, hospitals are being subjected to regular inspections, while claims are being scrutinised and records examined before decisions are taken. Reports submitted by officials are also being considered during the process.
He said complaints received against other hospitals were also being examined. Any hospital found to have violated the prescribed norms would face action in accordance with the rules, he added.
The government said monitoring and verification of empanelled hospitals would continue to prevent irregularities and safeguard the interests of beneficiaries under the scheme.
