BHOPAL: Madhya Pradesh Deputy Chief Minister Rajendra Shukla has directed officials to transform the state’s electronic Health Management Information System (e-HMIS) into an integrated digital platform capable of managing healthcare services and enabling real-time monitoring.
Reviewing the progress and implementation of e-HMIS at Mantralaya, Shukla said the system should help ensure timely and quality treatment for patients while providing health authorities with reliable information for monitoring and decision-making.
Health Commissioner Dhanraju S presented an overview of the system’s implementation, progress of various modules, integration of digital services and the department’s future action plan. Principal Secretary Sukhveer Singh and other officials attended the meeting.
Shukla directed officials to create a comprehensive digital database and case history for every patient. Records of previous treatment, investigations, medicines and other relevant medical information should be readily available to authorised doctors and healthcare institutions, he said. This would improve continuity of treatment and eliminate the need for patients to repeatedly provide their medical history.
He also ordered the integration of laboratory services and diagnostic procedures with e-HMIS. Test processing and report generation should be linked to the digital system so that reports can be made available quickly to doctors. The system should ensure the timeliness, accuracy and reliability of diagnostic information, he said.
The deputy chief minister further directed officials to connect e-HMIS with medicine distribution and stock management systems. Availability, consumption, distribution and inventory of essential medicines should be monitored in real time to prevent shortages at health facilities.
He called for strengthening digital dashboards and alert-based mechanisms so senior officials can receive timely information and intervene wherever necessary.

Real-time information on patient services, investigations, medicines and the functioning of health institutions should be available to officials through dashboards, he said.
He also stressed seamless connectivity among different e-HMIS modules covering registration, treatment, diagnostics, reports and medicines. Technical and operational difficulties should be identified and resolved promptly, while healthcare staff should receive adequate training and technical support.
Shukla said data generated through e-HMIS should also support future health planning and policy decisions, making the system an important pillar of data-driven healthcare governance in Madhya Pradesh.
