BHOPAL: Madhya Pradesh is seeking to expand its renewable energy capacity while developing a reliable and affordable 24×7 clean power system, Chief Minister Mohan Yadav said on Friday as Rewa Ultra Mega Solar Ltd (RUMSL) and the Asian Development Bank (ADB) signed an MoU for transaction advisory services for three renewable energy projects.
Addressing the programme at Samatva Bhawan in his official residence, Yadav said Madhya Pradesh was already known as a “green state” and was now moving towards establishing a stronger identity in the green and clean energy sector.
He said the state had significant potential in solar and wind energy and was exploring these opportunities in a phased manner. The government’s objective was not merely to increase renewable energy generation but to create a sustainable system capable of meeting the state’s growing power demand.
Under the agreement, ADB will provide RUMSL free transaction advisory services for three renewable energy projects. The collaboration is aimed at developing bankable and sustainable business structures to facilitate long-term investment in the sector.
Yadav said the projects would strengthen grid stability, renewable energy integration and peak-demand management. He added that equal attention was being given to transmission infrastructure and energy storage capacity.
One of the key initiatives involves a floating solar project under the PM Surya Sarovar scheme, including a 278-MW Omkareshwar Phase project. An additional 300 MW of capacity, along with the required infrastructure, is available in the Omkareshwar reservoir area, taking the planned project capacity to 600 MW. Surveys, pre-feasibility studies and a detailed project report have already been undertaken.
The PM Surya Sarovar scheme provides central financial assistance of Rs 1 crore per MW for floating solar PV projects with two-hour co-located energy storage systems.
Renewable Energy Minister Rakesh Shukla, senior officials and representatives of ADB and RUMSL attended the programme.
