Chhattisgarh Tops Nation in PMAY-G, Completes 1,600 Rural Houses Daily

NEW DELHI/Chhattisgarh has emerged as the country’s best-performing state under the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana-Gramin (PMAY-G), completing around 1,600 rural houses every day and surpassing the milestone of 10.60 lakh completed houses in the last two-and-a-half years.

The achievement comes as the state government intensifies its rural housing drive aimed at providing permanent homes to economically weaker families. According to official figures, more than six lakh houses were completed during 2025-26 alone, the highest annual completion recorded by any state in the country.

Chief Minister Vishnu Deo Sai said the housing programme was a key commitment made by his government immediately after taking office and reflected its focus on improving the living conditions of poor rural households.

The state has taken up the construction of 18.12 lakh houses, covering beneficiaries from the 2011 permanent waiting list, the Awas Plus database, incomplete houses inherited from previous years and beneficiaries under the Mukhyamantri Awas Yojana-Gramin Awas Nyay Yojana.

Officials said the programme has received a major financial push, with Rs 26,908 crore made available for housing construction. The rural development machinery has worked in mission mode to clear pending cases and accelerate new approvals, resulting in a sharp rise in house completions across villages.

Beyond PMAY-G, the state is also constructing 33,601 houses under the PM JANMAN initiative for tribal communities and 15,000 houses in Left Wing Extremism-affected districts under a special project. Surveys conducted under Awas Plus 2.0 are expected to bring more eligible families under the housing net.

The government has also integrated women’s self-help groups into the programme. Thousands of women are participating as “Dealer Didis” and “Rani Mistris”, contributing to construction activities while generating livelihoods and advancing financial independence.

To facilitate smoother implementation in rural areas, Atal Digital Suvidha Kendras have been established across villages, helping beneficiaries access banking and other services linked to housing construction.

Deputy Chief Minister and Panchayat and Rural Development Minister Vijay Sharma said the state remained committed to ensuring that every eligible rural family receives a permanent house, adding that the pace of implementation reflects the government’s determination to fulfil its housing promise.
