LUCKNOW: The Uttar Pradesh Cabinet on Tuesday approved the development of the Jhansi Link Expressway at an estimated cost of Rs 7,968.30 crore, with the state government set to bear the entire expenditure.
The project is aimed at improving connectivity to the Bundelkhand Industrial Development Authority (BIDA) area, Defence Corridor and other key locations in and around Jhansi district.
According to a state government statement, the expressway will enable safer and faster movement of people and goods from different parts of Uttar Pradesh and the country to these emerging industrial and strategic hubs.
No financial participation from the Central Government has been proposed or is expected for the project, with the entire cost to be funded by the Uttar Pradesh government.
Following the Cabinet approval, the government will initiate steps to begin construction at the earliest and complete the project in a time-bound manner.
The government said the expressway would play an important role in strengthening the development of BIDA and the Defence Corridor. Improved road connectivity is expected to boost industrial activity, attract investment and facilitate business expansion in the Bundelkhand region.
The project is also expected to generate direct and indirect employment opportunities through construction activity and the economic development that follows improved connectivity, the statement said.
