LUCKNOW: Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath on Saturday directed officials to swiftly dispose of long-pending revenue cases and asked police and the administration to maintain round-the-clock vigil during upcoming festivals, while taking strict action against illegal activities and threats to law and order.
Reviewing public welfare and law-and-order issues through a video conference with senior officials and field officers, Adityanath said unnecessary delays in land, property and public rights cases would not be tolerated and that the culture of repeated adjournments, or “tareekh par tareekh”, must end.
He directed officials to identify and systematically dispose of all revenue cases pending for more than five years, from Naib Tehsildar courts to the Board of Revenue. Uncontested succession cases under Section 33 should be resolved in “mission mode”, he said.
The chief minister also ordered continued action against the mafia and directed police to remain alert to incidents involving cattle smuggling, alleged “Love Jihad”, forced religious conversions, vandalism of religious sites and desecration of statues of prominent personalities. He called for regular surprise inspections of slaughterhouses and strict action against irregularities.
On public grievances, Adityanath said complaints received through Janata Darshan and the Integrated Grievance Redressal System (IGRS) must be resolved on the ground rather than merely closed on paper. He directed officials to verify facts and records before disposing of complaints and ordered re-examination of cases where complainants had given negative or dissatisfied feedback.
Cases found to have been closed on the basis of incorrect reports or unsatisfactory action will be referred by the Chief Minister’s Office to the concerned District Magistrate or Superintendent of Police, who will have to submit an explanation within five days.
The meeting also reviewed the district-wise crime situation between July 13 and August 23. According to the Additional Director General of Police (Law and Order), the week of August 17-23 recorded a 0.4 per cent decline in total FIRs compared with July 13-19. Serious crimes fell by 5.1 per cent, crimes against women by 3.9 per cent and crimes against Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes by 11.2 per cent.
With Shri Krishna Janmashtami, Vishwakarma Puja and Ganesh Chaturthi approaching, Adityanath directed officials to make detailed security and crowd-management arrangements. Special attention was sought in Mathura and Vrindavan due to the expected influx of devotees.
He directed officials to coordinate with the Shri Banke Bihari Temple management, establish holding areas wherever necessary, create a new police circle in Vrindavan, deploy adequate police personnel and post separate Joint Magistrates for Mathura and Vrindavan.
The chief minister also asked police stations and police lines to celebrate Janmashtami with devotion and set up tableaux while encouraging public participation.
For Ganesh Chaturthi, he ordered special precautions during idol immersion as several rivers are in spate. He also directed that idol heights remain within prescribed limits to prevent accidents involving high-tension power lines.
Adityanath further reviewed flood relief operations with the District Magistrates of Chitrakoot, Farrukhabad, Ayodhya, Azamgarh and Barabanki.
