JAIPUR: Rajasthan Chief Minister Bhajanlal Sharma on Saturday led a roadshow in Bhilwara to campaign for BJP candidates in the upcoming urban local body elections, urging voters to strengthen the party at the municipal level to accelerate development.
The roadshow, held from Doodhadhari Gopal Temple to Maharana Talkies, drew a large crowd of BJP workers and supporters. Residents gathered along the route and welcomed Sharma by showering flower petals.
Before the roadshow, Sharma offered prayers at the Radha-Krishna Temple and Charbhuja Temple and sought the well-being and prosperity of Rajasthan.
Addressing the gathering, the chief minister said the BJP government, under Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s leadership, had set new benchmarks in development during the past two-and-a-half years.
“Under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, the double-engine government has established new dimensions of development in the last two-and-a-half years,” Sharma said.
Appealing to voters to back BJP candidates in the civic polls, Sharma said adding a “third engine” at the local level would give further momentum to development works.
“The people of Rajasthan will work to add the third engine in the municipal elections to further strengthen the pace of development, and a triple-engine government will be formed in all urban local bodies of the state, including Bhilwara,” he said.
Sharma also said his government was working towards fulfilling its commitment to “One State-One Election”.
The roadshow was part of the BJP’s intensified campaign ahead of the urban local body elections, with the party planning similar programmes by the chief minister in several major cities during the final phase of campaigning.
The civic polls, scheduled to be held on September 9 and 11, are being viewed as an important test of the BJP government’s performance and the party’s organisational strength at the grassroots level.
