GWALIOR: A 35-year-old woman and her two-year-old son were killed while three other members of their family were injured after the roof of their house collapsed following heavy rains in Madhya Pradesh’s Gwalior district early Thursday, police said.
The incident took place in the Jangipura area of Dabra town, around 45 km from Gwalior, when the roof of the old two-storey house suddenly caved in, trapping the family of five beneath the debris, Dabra police station house officer Sanjay Sharma said.
The family had been living in the rented house for several years.
The deceased were identified as Seema (35) and her son Aditya, police said. Seema’s husband, Jagendra Rajak (38), who works at a factory in Gwalior, and their daughters Ragini (8) and Vaishali (5) sustained injuries in the collapse.
“The old two-storey house suddenly collapsed after midnight, trapping the entire family under the debris. Seema and her two-year-old son Aditya died, while the three injured are undergoing treatment,” Sharma said.
After being alerted, police and administrative officials reached the site and began rescue efforts. The injured family members were first taken to a hospital in Dabra and subsequently referred to Gwalior for further treatment.
The administration was making arrangements to extend all possible assistance to the affected family, officials said.
