Bhopal, August 30, 2026:** Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Mohan Yadav on Sunday visited flood-affected areas of Chitrakoot to assess the damage caused by heavy rainfall and rising water levels in the Mandakini and Semrawal rivers.
Yadav, who arrived in Chitrakoot from Rewa, inspected affected localities on foot and visited a relief shelter near the historic Mukhar Vind. He met families displaced by the flooding, enquired about their well-being and distributed clothes, household supplies and food grains.
“The entire government stands with the people affected by the floods during this difficult time,” Yadav said, assuring residents that the administration would assess the losses and provide assistance according to government norms.
Senior officials asked to remain in Chitrakoot
The Chief Minister directed senior administrative officials to stay in Chitrakoot for the next three days and oversee relief operations until normal life is restored.
He instructed the district administration to ensure that affected families receive essential services, including food, drinking water, clothing and medical assistance. Officials were also told to maintain continuous monitoring of the flood situation and ensure that there are no gaps in rescue and relief efforts.
CM walks through waterlogged neighbourhood
Yadav personally walked through flood-hit parts of the Ramdham locality, including muddy and waterlogged roads, to assess the damage to homes.
He visited the residences of Ramphal Garg and Kismat Kumar Garg and spoke with the affected families about the losses they had suffered.
The Chief Minister also stopped near Madhav Dharamshala on the Satna-Chitrakoot road and inspected the damage to Agrahari Kirana Store. He spoke with shopkeeper Kamta Prasad Gupta, whose business was affected after floodwater entered the premises.
Yadav assured residents and traders that the government would provide all possible assistance in accordance with applicable relief provisions.
Pilgrims stranded by flooding
At the relief shelter, the Chief Minister interacted with Raju Singh, a pilgrim from Baberu in Banda district. Singh said he had travelled to Chitrakoot with a group of around 20 people to visit Kamtanath Swami but became stranded because of the floodwaters.
According to Singh, the administration was providing the group with food, drinking water and other essential facilities at the shelter.
Yadav also distributed relief supplies to people staying at the facility.
No loss of life reported so far
Speaking to reporters after his inspection, Yadav said persistent heavy rainfall had caused the water levels of the Semrawal and Mandakini rivers to rise sharply, resulting in flooding in several parts of Chitrakoot.
Several homes were inundated and household belongings were damaged, he said. However, the Chief Minister said there had been no reported loss of life so far, crediting the alertness of the district administration and timely preparedness based on weather forecasts.
“Relief and rescue operations are continuing,” Yadav said, adding that essential supplies were being delivered to affected residents.
He said damage caused by the floods was being assessed and that the administration would provide appropriate assistance to affected families after completing the assessment.
Survey ordered for livestock and other losses
The Chief Minister said authorities would conduct a formal survey of all categories of losses, including damage to property and livestock.
Families whose animals have been lost, as well as those suffering other eligible losses, will be provided financial assistance in accordance with government rules, he said.
Yadav added that he had reviewed the flood situation in Rewa and Satna districts on Saturday night and remained in Rewa to monitor developments.
He said the immediate priority was to accelerate relief and rescue operations and ensure that residents could safely return home once water levels receded.
Senior officials, elected representatives and district authorities accompanied the Chief Minister during the visit, including Chitrakoot MLA Surendra Singh Gaharwar, Nagar Parishad chairperson Sadhana Patel, Rewa Divisional Commissioner Shailendra Singh and Satna Collector Dr Satish Kumar S.
