BHOPAL: Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Mohan Yadav on Wednesday inaugurated Godrej Consumer Products Limited’s fourth integrated manufacturing unit at Malanpur Industrial Area in Bhind district, marking another major industrial investment in the Gwalior-Chambal region.
The new unit has been established with an investment of around ₹450 crore and is expected to provide direct employment to more than 600 people. With the expansion, Malanpur is now home to Asia’s largest integrated soap manufacturing facility, with capacity to produce up to 4,000 soap bars every minute.
Yadav said the investment reflected growing confidence among industries in Madhya Pradesh and described Godrej’s investment as an example of ‘Made in MP’ and ‘Faith in MP’. He said the Gwalior-Chambal region was rapidly shedding its past image and emerging as a centre of investment, industry and employment.
The Chief Minister noted that the Malanpur unit was Godrej’s third major industrial unit to be inaugurated in the Gwalior-Chambal region in about two months. Earlier, a ₹1,500-crore cement plant was inaugurated in Guna and a defence manufacturing plant in Shivpuri. He said investment proposals signed during state industry conclaves were increasingly taking concrete shape.
CM Yadav said Madhya Pradesh received investment proposals worth ₹30.77 lakh crore at the Global Investors Summit held in Bhopal last year, with projects involving around ₹10 lakh crore already taking shape on the ground. He added that the state’s export capacity had increased to ₹76,000 crore.
He urged the Godrej Group to establish a fifth unit at Malanpur and initiate local skill-development programmes for employees in Bhind. CM Yadav said the state government would continue working to attract investment and create employment opportunities for its youth.
Godrej Group Executive Chairperson Nisaba Godrej said the company’s total investment at the Malanpur site has reached ₹850 crore. The fourth manufacturing unit was commissioned with an investment of more than ₹480 crore and, once fully operational, is expected to generate a turnover of ₹3,800 crore. The facility manufactures soaps, hair colours, household insecticides and other products.
Nisaba Godrej highlighted the company’s 35-year association with Madhya Pradesh, which began with its first manufacturing plant at Malanpur in 1991. She also welcomed state measures enabling women to work night shifts with safety provisions, saying these had expanded opportunities for women in employment, skill development and leadership.
