Barwani Becomes First District in Madhya Pradesh for Utilizing Extra Doses in COVID Vaccine Vials, Covers 7 Per Cent More Beneficiaries
BHOPAL / In a remarkable initiative during the inauguration day of the mega vaccination campaign, Barwani has utilized the extra doses available in the vials of the Covid vaccine, It has become the first district in Madhya Pradesh to inoculate 7 per cent more people against the available quantity.
As many as 1,695,592 people were jabbed in the state during the mega vaccination drive on Monday, 21 June. The campaign will be held again from July 1 to 3. Around 5.49 people will be inoculated in the state. MP has become the first state in the country to achieve 16.95 lakh vaccination against the 10 lakh target set for the mega vaccination drive on International Yoga Day.
The collector of Barwani, Shivraj Singh said that the government had provided 20,300 doses of the Covishield vaccine to the district for utilizing on the inauguration day. However, 21,755 people had been vaccinated, which was possible due to the efforts of specially trained teams of health workers, he also said.
A vial of Covishield vaccine of Covid-19 has 11 doses but the health workers usually utilize only 10 doses by giving 0.5 ml vaccine for each beneficiary. More than one dose of vaccine remains in every vial, which used to waste but the district has made a record to utilize these extra doses.
“We have been focusing to utilize the extra dose of Covishield since the beginning of the vaccination programme. For this, the health workers have been trained specially, therefore, we have inoculated 7 per cent more beneficiaries out of the available doses on the inauguration day of the mega vaccination campaign”, the collector of Barwani told The Sun Today. “At least, 1,455 beneficiaries had been got the benefit of the vaccination after utilizing the extra doses. It has made reaching vaccination to 107 per cent in the district”, Shivraj Singh also said.
Singh emphasized that the vaccine was a Sanjeevani to fight against the pandemic in the current situation therefore the 100 per cent use of the vaccine in the vials would play a significant role to flatten the curve of COVID-19 and help to face the expected third wave of the epidemic.
Altogether 145 per cent of people were vaccinated in the district during the first day of the campaign. The administration had engaged employees of various departments and women self-help groups to make aware the people for vaccination.
“The government had fixed a target of 15,000 vaccination to the district while 21,755 beneficiaries had been inoculated against the objective. It was not definitely easy for the district because the district has around 70 per cent tribal population and they were not aware of the vaccination. The credit of these achievements goes to our teams of various departments, they are leaving no stone unturned to arrest the deadly virus’, Singh added. “The tribals of the district reside in the remote and hilly areas where sending the health staff is a tough task in this season, and convincing them for vaccination is also a challenging task but the hard work of our team, planning and deep monitoring gave us the fruitful results”, he further added.
There were 66 vaccination sessions had been set up in the district and the inoculation even touched the 1,100 marks at some centers. Barwani recorded a record percentage of145 against the set target of vaccination.
