NEW DELHI: Delhi Police has drawn up a multi-tier security plan for the BRICS Summit, with around 15,000 personnel and 200 companies of paramilitary forces to be deployed across the national capital, a senior officer said on Thursday.
Manish Kumar Agrawal, Special Commissioner of Police (Protective/Security Division), said the arrangements were designed to provide maximum security to visiting dignitaries while keeping inconvenience to the public to a minimum.
“We have made elaborate bandobast by ensuring minimum inconvenience to the public. We have also issued advance advisories regarding traffic arrangements,” Agrawal said.
He said Delhi Police was coordinating with several agencies for the summit and had already conducted detailed surveys of all designated routes.
A large number of personnel will be deployed for law and order, security and traffic management. Security arrangements will cover the airport, hotels and other locations, including places that may be visited by the visiting dignitaries at short notice, he said.
The officer said a multi-layered security mechanism had been put in place at Bharat Mandapam, the main summit venue, with tighter access controls, heightened surveillance and enhanced security measures.
Coordination meetings have also been conducted with neighbouring states to ensure smooth security arrangements and better coordination during the movement of foreign dignitaries, he said.
“Intelligence inputs will be coordinated and shared among the agencies concerned,” Agrawal said, adding that all available inputs were being analysed as part of the security preparations.
He said the police would seek to strike a balance between the security requirements of the summit and the routine movement of people in the city.
“Maximum security with minimum inconvenience to the public will be ensured,” he said.
The BRICS Summit is scheduled to be held at Bharat Mandapam on September 12 and 13. However, traffic restrictions related to the movement of foreign delegations and dignitaries are expected to come into effect from September 10 and remain in place until around September 14, officials said on Wednesday.
