BHOPAL: Madhya Pradesh is accelerating work to strengthen its electricity distribution infrastructure under the Revamped Distribution Sector Scheme (RDSS), with a focus on improving power supply quality and preparing the network to meet future demand, Energy Minister Pradhuman Singh Tomar said.
The Madhya Pradesh Poorv Kshetra Vidyut Vitaran Company is undertaking several infrastructure projects under the scheme, including construction of new 33/11 kV substations, augmentation of power transformer capacity and expansion of 33 kV transmission lines.
A total of 31 new 33/11 kV substations have been proposed across various circles of the company. Of these, work on 10 substations has been completed, while construction and associated works at the remaining locations are progressing.
Under the RDSS, the company has planned 722.6 km of new 33 kV lines to expand and strengthen the electricity network. So far, 332.6 km of the planned lines have been completed. The new lines are expected to improve the capacity and reliability of electricity supply in areas witnessing increasing demand.
Transformer capacity augmentation is also being undertaken at various 33/11 kV substations. Of the 78 works involving an increase of 3.15 MVA capacity, 60 have been completed. Similarly, 16 of the 17 works involving augmentation to 5 MVA have been completed, while 63 of the 80 projects for increasing capacity from 3.15 MVA to 5 MVA have been completed.
All four projects involving augmentation from 5 MVA to 8 MVA and all five projects involving an increase from 8 MVA to 10 MVA have also been completed. In addition, 73 of the 92 works for increasing capacity from 5 MVA to 10 MVA have been completed.
According to the company, the infrastructure upgrades will help reduce overloading, improve voltage levels and enhance supply reliability while enabling the network to cater to growing electricity demand. Remaining works are being expedited to create a modern and future-ready distribution system.
