INDORE: The Madhya Pradesh Food Department on Wednesday seized 375 quintals of sugar from a chocolate manufacturing unit in Indore after finding that the stock held at the facility was substantially above the permissible limit, an official said.
The action was carried out under the Sugar Control Order, 2026, which regulates the quantity of sugar that can be stocked by establishments.
District Supply Controller M L Maru said officials conducted an inspection at a chocolate manufacturing unit in the Palda area and found 475 quintals of sugar stored on the premises.
“Against the permissible stock limit of 100 quintals, the unit was found to have 475 quintals of sugar,” Maru said.
Following the inspection, authorities seized the excess 375 quintals of sugar, while documents and records related to the stock were taken up for scrutiny.
Officials are examining the procurement and storage records to determine whether the unit violated the provisions governing sugar stocks. Further action will be decided based on the findings of the investigation, Maru said.
The department has stepped up inspections to ensure compliance with stock limits and other regulatory provisions under the new order.
