Three deaths reported across state in rain-related incidents
LUCKNOW: Flood conditions continued to affect several parts of Uttar Pradesh on Wednesday, with 23 of the 35 districts impacted so far still facing the situation, while authorities evacuated 16,784 people to safer locations, officials said.
As many as 3,042 people were rescued during the day. Three deaths have been reported in rain-related incidents — 18-month-old Priyansh in Pratapgarh and Shera, 32, and Suresh, 55, in Gajraula area of Amroha.
The state government has deployed 1,499 boats and motorboats for rescue and relief operations, along with 1,067 medical teams. It has established 1,311 flood shelters, of which 201 are currently operational. Relief agencies have also provided assistance in 442 cases involving damaged houses, while 36,287 livestock have been affected.
In Chitrakoot, around 150 people stranded in Chaura village along the Mandakini river were rescued using motorboats operated by the 42nd Battalion of the Provincial Armed Constabulary. The rescued residents were provided food, relief supplies and medical assistance.
Ballia has also witnessed significant flooding, with rising levels of the Ganga and Saryu affecting around 20,500 people. Eighty-three boats have been deployed, while authorities have distributed 6,500 ration kits, 33,843 medicine kits and 83,092 cooked-food packets. More than 16,600 livestock have been vaccinated and 965 quintals of fodder supplied.
In Pilibhit, rising Sharda, Deoha and Khakra rivers have disrupted normal life. More than two lakh cusecs of water was released from Banbasa into the Sharda, while over 30,000 cusecs was released from Nanak Sagar into the Deoha. Schools for Classes 1 to 8 were closed and the submergence of Khakra bridge cut off around 18 villages.
The Sharda at Palia remained 35 cm above its danger level, though no village was reported completely inundated.
In Lakhimpur Kheri, officials inspected erosion-prone areas along the Mohana river, with around a dozen houses in submerged areas being shifted.
Across affected districts, more than 3.36 lakh lunch packets, 68,953 foodgrain packets, 5.02 lakh chlorine tablets and 1.77 lakh ORS packets have been distributed. Authorities have urged residents in vulnerable areas to remain alert and follow official advisories.
