PWD Executive Engineer Caught Red-handed Taking Rs 25,000 Bribe
BHOPAL / An executive engineer of the public works department (PWD) was caught red-handed by the special police establishment Lokayikta while allegedly accepting a bribe of Rs 25,000 from a contractor in Madhya Pradesh’s Bhopal on Saturday.
Lokayukta superintendent of police Bhopal Manu Vyas told that Based on a complaint, the police laid a trap and caught executive engineer Kamal Singh Kaushik of the PWD accepting the bribe at Nehru Nagar area of the city.
A contractor had made a written complaint to the Lokayukta police stating the accused official had demanded a bribe to clear his bill dues and a security deposit totalling around Rs 67 lakh, the SP said.
The complainant Mahendra Pandey had done construction works of a boundary wall and approach road in Khushilal Sharma Ayurveda Sansthan, but to release his pending amount, the executive engineer demanded a bribe of 1 per cent of the total amount. After taking negotiation with the EE, the matter was settled for Rs 25 thousand.
“After verification of the complaint, the Lokayukta team took action and caught the accused while taking a bribe of Rs 25,000 from the victim”, SP Vyas said.
The bribe amount was kept by the accused in his government vehicle Innova number MP04 BC-5884 from where the bribe amount was recovered by the police team. As Nehru Nagar is the busiest intersection and not having a convenient place for action, advance trap proceedings were done at Kamla Nagar police station.
An offence was registered against the accused under the Prevention of Corruption Act. Further investigation into the matter has been started. The team members were DSP Dr. Salil Sharma, Inspector Ashish Bhattacharya, and Inspector Mayuri Gaur.
