Madhya Pradesh CM Yadav Leads Water Revival Drive Under ‘Jal Ganga Samvardhan Abhiyan’
BHOPAL/ Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Dr. Mohan Yadav reaffirmed his government’s commitment to water conservation by actively participating in the Jal Ganga Samvardhan Abhiyan in Rajgarh district. The campaign, launched on March 30, aims to rejuvenate the state’s ancient water bodies and ensure sustainable water management across the state.
During his visit, Dr. Yadav offered prayers at the Kapileshwar Mahadev Temple in Sarangpur and joined ‘Jaldoots’ in a Shramdaan activity, emphasising the importance of community involvement in conserving every drop of water. He highlighted that the initiative focuses on restoring traditional water structures like rivers, ponds, wells, and stepwells, aligning with the broader goal of reviving the state’s historical water sources.
The Chief Minister also inaugurated and performed Bhoomi Pujan for 733 development projects worth ₹112.10 crore in Rajgarh district. Notably, 633 of these projects are part of the Jal Ganga Samvardhan Abhiyan, including the construction of 590 Amrit Sarovars and 10,500 new farm ponds. These efforts are expected to significantly enhance groundwater levels and support agricultural activities in the region.
Dr. Yadav emphasized that the campaign is not just about infrastructure but also about instilling a sense of responsibility among citizens. He noted that public participation is crucial for the success of the initiative, urging communities to engage in activities like tree plantation around water bodies and the adoption of rainwater harvesting techniques. The campaign also includes plans to treat polluted water drains under the Swachh Bharat Mission-2.0 and establish drinking water facilities in urban and rural areas.
Highlighting the cultural significance of water conservation, Dr. Yadav mentioned that events like Ganga Dussehra and Bat Savitri Purnima would be utilised to promote awareness about the importance of preserving water resources. He also pointed out that the soil excavated during the creation of water structures would be provided to farmers, ensuring optimal use of natural resources.
The Chief Minister’s active involvement in the Jal Ganga Samvardhan Abhiyan underscores the state’s dedication to sustainable development and environmental preservation. By combining traditional practices with modern techniques, the initiative aims to secure water availability for future generations while honouring Madhya Pradesh’s rich cultural heritage.
