BHOPAL: Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Mohan Yadav will inaugurate the expanded fourth manufacturing unit of Godrej Consumer Products Limited at the industrial area of Malanpur in Bhind district on August 26, with an investment of more than Rs 450 crore, officials said.
The expansion is expected to significantly increase the plant’s production capacity and create more than 2,250 new employment opportunities for youths in Bhind and surrounding areas. Yadav will also distribute appointment certificates to newly recruited PWD employees during the programme.
The expanded facility will include a continuous saponification plant with a capacity of 10 metric tonnes per hour and an automated packaging system capable of handling 217 bundles per minute. It will have an annual production capacity of 42 crore hair-colour sachets, 14 crore mosquito-repellent products and 10 crore air-freshener sachets. The facility will also produce 7,300 metric tonnes of hair cream annually.
The expansion is expected to generate an additional Rs 185 crore annually in Central and state Goods and Services Tax revenue for Madhya Pradesh.
Godrej Consumer Products is also incorporating environmental measures at the facility, including a zero-liquid-discharge system and a 204-kilowatt rooftop solar power plant.
The company has operated its Malanpur facility since 1991. Spread over 65 acres, the plant has so far received cumulative investment of around Rs 850 crore and manufactures products including soaps, hair colours and household insecticides.
The plant currently has an annual capacity to produce 1.5 lakh metric tonnes of soap noodles and 70,000 metric tonnes of finished toilet soap. Following the expansion, these capacities are expected to rise to 2 lakh metric tonnes and 1.2 lakh metric tonnes, respectively, taking the total annual production capacity to 3.2 lakh metric tonnes.
The expansion is expected to strengthen Malanpur’s position as a major integrated soap manufacturing hub and move it towards becoming one of Asia’s largest integrated soap manufacturing facilities.
