Bring Plastic, Take a Sapling: Indore Launches Green Campaign

INDORE: The Indore Municipal Corporation has launched a campaign under which residents can get a sapling for every half kilogram of single-use plastic waste deposited at designated collection centres, officials said.

Under the initiative, titled ‘Bring half a kilogram of plastic, take a sapling’, residents are depositing single-use plastic at the city’s RRR (Reduce, Reuse and Recycle) centres and receiving saplings in return.

Since the campaign began on August 20, around 755 kg of single-use plastic has been collected at 15 RRR centres, while more than 1,500 saplings have been distributed to participants, officials said.

The initiative seeks to curb the use of single-use plastic while encouraging citizens to participate in tree plantation and environmental conservation, they said.

Single-use plastic, which includes items typically discarded after being used once, can remain in the environment for long periods and pose risks to soil, water sources and ecosystems.

The civic body’s campaign is part of efforts to promote responsible waste management and greater public participation in keeping the city clean and environmentally sustainable.

Indore has topped the national cleanliness survey for eight consecutive times, underlining its focus on waste management and cleanliness initiatives.
