BHOPAL: The Madhya Pradesh Power Transmission Company (MP Transco) has commissioned an additional 50 MVA power transformer at its 132 kV substation in Gopalpur, strengthening the transmission network and improving power supply reliability in Sehore district.
Energy Minister Pradhuman Singh Tomar said the commissioning of the transformer has increased the transformation capacity of the Gopalpur substation to 90 MVA. The substation previously had only one power transformer.
With the rising electricity load and the need to strengthen transmission reliability, the second transformer was installed, he said. The availability of two transformers will improve load management and ensure that power transmission remains largely unaffected if one transformer is taken offline for maintenance or faces a technical problem.
MP Transco Bhopal Additional Chief Engineer Rajesh Shandilya said the newly commissioned transformer is the 27th extra-high-voltage power transformer operating in Sehore district.
MP Transco currently operates 11 extra-high-voltage substations in the district, including the 400 kV substation at Ashta, 220 kV at Budhni and 132 kV substations at Gopalpur, Shahganj, Salakanpur, Ichhawar, Sehore, Shyampur and Nasrullaganj, among others.
With the commissioning of the new transformer, the total transformation capacity in Sehore district has increased to 2,607 MVA.
Across Madhya Pradesh, MP Transco operates 417 extra-high-voltage substations, comprising 14 substations at 400 kV, 88 at 220 kV and 315 at 132 kV.
The company has 1,055 power transformers operational across the state, including 41 at the 400 kV level, 220 at 220 kV and 794 at 132 kV.
The commissioning of the 50 MVA transformer at Gopalpur has taken MP Transco’s overall transformation capacity in the state to 85,398 MVA, further strengthening the transmission infrastructure to meet growing electricity demand.
